Michigan International Speedway is a racing track used chiefly for NASCAR racing. The D-shaped superspeedway is two miles long and is moderately banked (as by stock car standards) and is considered one of the best facilities in Motorsports because of its wide racing surface. The track is one of the fastest tracks in NASCAR racing due to its wide sweeping corners and long straights, giving typical qualifying speeds in excess of 190 mph and corner entry speeds can be anything from 205 – 215 mph. There have been some pretty impressive records set at the track including The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying lap by Ryan Newman in 2005 at 193.232 mph, the NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying lap in 2003 by Kasey Kahne at 186.490 mph and the IndyCar Series qualifying lap by Thomas Scheckter at 222.458 mph. Michigan International Speedway is host to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the NASCAR Nationwide Series and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series as well as the ARCA Remax Series. The building of the facility was started on the 28th of September 1967 by land developer, Lawrence H. LoPatin and was finally opened on the 13th of October 1968. Michigan International Speedway can be found at 12626 U.S. Highway 12, Brooklyn, MI 49230.
