Homestead-Miami Speedway is a very important and exciting place to be for NASCAR racing fans in that it is the place to be to see the final races of the season for NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series, the Nationwide and the Camping World Truck Series alongside the final point standings that decide the champions. Homestead-Miami hosted the first-ever NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship in 2004, as Kurt Busch became the first to win the "Chase" cup after holding off Johnson and Jeff Gordon on the last lap to win the championship by a margin of just eight points.
Since the track opened in 1995 Homestead-Miami has seen 19 different NASCAR champions crowned. Owned by International Speedway Corporation it was first opened on the 5th November 1995 and was previously named (from 1995 - 1996) Metro-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex. The complex holds two tracks, a 1.5 mile oval with four turns, each having progressive banking between 18 and 20 degrees and 3 degree banking along the straights. The lap record on the oval is currently held by Sam Hornish Jr. at 0:24.462 during the 2006 IRL IndyCar Series. The second track is a modified 2.3 mile road course with eleven turns and gives a lap record of 1:13.022 set by David Donohue in 2008 during the Daytona Prototype. Situated at One Speedway Boulevard, Homestead, Florida 33035, South West of Miami it is ideal for fans to camp on South Beach or in the Keys in this unique locality where fans can enjoy brilliant weather, a diverse culture and the well-known Miami night life. The track complex reflects the art deco of Miami Beach, using many colours including silver, aqua and purple and has a seating capacity of 65,000 for the ever-avid fans. There are eight associated driving schools that can be contacted through the main Homestead-Miami web-side.
