Nicknamed "The Monster Mile" for its ability to chew up race cars, Dover International Speedway are a major venue for Motorsports fans and has been sanctioned by NASCAR to provide NASCAR races such as the Sprint Cup Series, Nationwide Series, Camping World Truck Series and Camping World East Series.
The facility is situated at 1131 North Dupont Highway, Dover in Delaware, 19901 and has a seating capacity of 135000 and twice a year the city of Dover becomes alive when thousands of NASCAR fans rally to see their favourite race drivers. The track is unique in that it is exactly one mile long which makes it neither a superspeedway nor a short track and the track is one of three that are covered in concrete rather than asphalt (Bristol Motor Speedway and Dover’s sister track, Nashville Superspeedway are the others). The 24-degree banking in the turns, and 9-degree banking on the straightaways, provide fantastically fast laps. Speeds top 160 mph and despite multiple groves there is little room for error when drivers run into trouble. The track's Monster Mile nickname is certainly well-deserved. The track has another feature that can’t be found anywhere else – The Monster Monument at Victory Plaza given by the American Automobile Association, featuring the tracks con, Miles the Monster which stands at 46 feet tall. Over 200 granite plaques surround the structure and are dedicated to the infamous race car drivers that have left their mark after conquering the Monster Mile at Dover International Speedway. In his hands he holds a full size stock car above visitors during race weekends.
