Daytona International Speedway

Daytona International Speedway is the host to the most exceptional of NASCAR races, the Daytona 500. It is said that drivers who have won the season-opening Daytona 500 and the series championship believe that winning this is the most significant in their career.

The speedway is considered to be the most fan friendly facility of all sports with everything the fans could want available, just minutes from the ocean and the sandy beach and is located at 1801 West International Speedway Boulevard, Daytona Beach in Florida. It was opened in 1959 after William France Sr. worked with Charles Moneypenny to design a replacement for the former Dayton Beach Road Course, giving the facility a banked design to allow for higher speeds and allowing fans to have a far better view of the cars.

It has a capacity of seating 147,000 fans and is the second largest single lit outdoor sports facility. Not only used by NASCAR it hosts races of ARCA, AMA Superbike, Grand-Am and Motorcross. Multiple layouts are featured including the principle 2.5 mile, high speed, asphalt tri-oval that has four turns that have banking of 31 degrees, two degrees on the back straightway and 18 degrees banking at the start/finish line. The lap record was set in 1987 by Bill Elliott at 0:42.783 during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The tri-oval is host to two championship point races, the Daytona 500 held in February and the Coke Zero 400 held in July. The facility also boasts a 3.56 mile road course to host the sports car race called the Daytona Continental, now the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, a second in-field 2.95 mile road course primarily for motorcycles, a super bike track is built between the pit and the tri-oval during the Daytona Beach Bike Week and, until 2009, a flat track used for karting and flat track motorcycle racing.
