“Van Go” – Ford Econoline

Van Go - Church Magazine's Econoline

This Econline is owned by Coby Gewertz who runs a magazine called Church which he describes as a merging of his 2 passions – automobiles and good design.

This van known as “Van Go” made its debut this year at the 2011 Grand National Roadster Show this year which features some of the best customized vehicles across the America.

One of the most noticeable things about Van Go is that it is low – really low – and all the necessary suspension modifications were carried out by Kevin Francis and Steve Rose at KA Custom.

After the body had been shot blasted and was ready for painting it was handed over to Tim Conder who beat the body back into shape and sprayed the final paint. He was also responsible for all the little modifications that are often missed such as hiding door hinges etc. Coby credits him with being the most creative person he knows after suggesting ideas for the interior wooden floor.

The bumpers were created by Steve Rose at KA Customs and hug the body tightly which looks great doesn’t it?

The van is intended to be used as a mobile show room to show all of Coby’s merchandise that is available on his website. In order to create the unique look he was looking for he turned to Pablo Perez who is very good at working with wood. Coby wanted the interior of the van to capture the look and feel of mid century architecture rather than that of traditional car interiors.

Welderup – Diesel Rat Rod

Welder Up - Rat Rod

Welderup Diesel Rat Rod

This Diesel Rat Rod created by Steve Darnell, a welder by trade, will make an impression on you either good or bad but you won’t forget it! Steve is a welder by trade with a “can do” attitude towards most things and has the tenacity to see any job through to completion.

When Steve found a rusting 1928 Dodge rusting away in a field it sparked his imagination and the creation of this amazing diesel rat-rod. The original car was a 4 door sedan which he has now chopped by 4 inches and channeled over the frame by 3 inches. The engine is out of a 1998 Dodge pick-up and has been modified to use a set of twin turbos allowing the engine to produce around 1200 lb/ft of torque and run 1/4 mile in around 12 seconds.

The front suspension is mostly from a 1929 1 Ton Ford truck and the rear suspension is a four link set-up with air-ride components.

Recycing features very heavily in the build of his car with most of Steve’s best finds coming from agricultural salvage. The rear bumper comes from a large diesel engine which is the work of a true genius!

The video below shows some close ups of the finished rat-rod.

Here is some footage of Steve doing a burn-out…

Scion XB DJ Booth Car from Five Axis

Scion Xb DJ Booth

I missed this when it first hit the news in 2008 but I thought it was worth revisiting. The car is based on a Scion XB that has been heavily modified by Five Axis to incorporate a DJ Booth!

Five Axis was started by 2 guys in a 80 square foot shack in Santa Ana, California. As there unique styling became more in demand they moved to bigger premises and are currently in a 22,000 sq/ft garage employing some of the best fabricators, modellers, designers and machinists in the business.

Below is a video of Troy (now the sole owner of Five Axis) demoing the Scion. The car has been widened by 8 inches and the roof has been chopped by 4 inches and the boy side panels have been lengthened by 2 inches completely changing the proportions of the car.

Slammed Lincoln Continental

I saw this article on the Stance Works Blog and had to mention it on mine too. Its not very often that you come across a picture of a car that makes you sit up and take note like this one.

Mike Alexander’s Lincoln

The car is actually sprayed in Mini Cooper Hot Chocolate Brown with another Mini Cooper shade of white for the roof. I think you’ll agree that it is an award-winning combination?
