In the book Dean says “Elvis used to hang out in my shop because nobody would bother him there!” and goes on to say “I never built any cars for him, and wasn’t a heavy duty car guy, but he hung out with me to get away from people” which is testament to his popularity at the time.
During his career his has build cars that most people have probably seen but didn’t realise that they were built by Jeffries. Some of the more familiar cars include the Monkey Mobile as seen on the Monkees, the 1932 Ford 3 window coupe that appears on the cover of the Beach Boys’ Little Deuce Coupe album and many more.
When you mention Dean Jeffries to some car enthusiasts they will tell you about the rivalry between Jeffries and Barris. Barris was another well known car customiser of the same era as Jeffries who were once friends and worked together. The book talks about how the rift came about and even talks to Barris about it. Barris mentions that they should bury the hatchet on their bitterness and move on
